NCSTA Conference

Each year, North Carolina teachers in grades K–12 are invited to attend NCABR's scientist speaker series at the annual Profesional Development Institute for the North Carolina Science Teachers Association (NCSTA).

NCABR's scientist speaker series showcases North Carolina's leading experts in subjects such as veterinary medicine, genomics, genetic research, DNA testing and forensic science, human clinical trials and stem cell research.

In addition to the speaker series, NCABR distributes educational materials and resources at its booth in the main conference hall.

2011 Conference

November 10–11
Greensboro, N.C.

NCABR's booth and speaker presentation were huge hits at the 2011 NCSTA conference. At the booth, our one-of-a-kind Su-DNA-Ku interactive game drew more than 50 contestants, each of whom raced against the clock to solve the DNA-themed sudoku puzzle.

At our speaker presentation, Dr. Melani Duffrin, of East Carolina University, showed teachers how to use food to teach math and science using the innovative FoodMASTER curriculum and hands-on demonstration. Each attendee received a copy of the curriculum and supplemental materials.

Dr. Duffrin is the Director of Special Projects at ECU's Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education.
