No other organization in the state provides crisis management support to deal with threats to research posed by animal rights activists and other radical groups. Based on 12 years experience, NCABR offers:

MEDIA EDUCATION
No other organization in the state presents media forums that provide journalists with solid scientific background information on high-profile, controversial research issues and that promote dialogue between researchers and the media. NCABR generates positive publicity for the North Carolina scientific community by:

  • Offering the media resources and referrals
  • Cultivating media contacts

WORKFORCE PREPAREDNESS
In response to the growing workforce demands in North Carolina’s science and technology industries, NCABR sponsors programs that foster early interest in science careers, including:

  • K-12 teacher workshops about biomedical research and careers
  • The systematic distribution of career information to 7,000 high school students and 200 teachers who are part of a specialized health occupations program
  • Collaborative programs with the North Carolina Community College System that highlight research career programs for minorities

PUBLIC AWARENESS
For more than 12 years, NCABR has been the state’s leader in promoting public understanding about the value of research and the facts about animal research. NCABR addresses public science literacy through:

  • Teacher training for nearly 2,900 K-12 teachers
  • Science-based forums, where the public and experts debate and discuss controversial research advances
  • Radio and television public service announcements

RESEARCH COMMUNITY SUPPORT
NCABR helps companies and organizations proactively communicate the benefits of research to different audiences by providing:

  • Communications training for management and staff
  • Talking points and research advocacy tips
  • Print and Internet materials for student and general public audiences
